The weather station has a new home for its data. It used to log to adafruit.io. Now it logs to my own internal server. Nobody else gets a copy of my backyard temperature, which is probably for the best.
The setup is a Raspberry Pi reading from a SparkFun weather station kit. It logs wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity and barometric pressure, plus a few things like dew point that get calculated from the other numbers.
Why move? Control, mostly. I also get uncomfortable when I’m first starting a project, because I don’t want to send garbage to someone else. And when you’re first starting a project, garbage is most of what you have.
Which brings me to the notes for myself. While testing I generated a lot of bad data, and to get rid of it I just dropped the measurements from InfluxDB. The database name isn’t critical (I called mine weatherstation), so swap in whatever you used.
- Launch the shell:
influx - Pick the database to work in:
use weatherstation - List what’s in there:
show series - Drop a measurement:
drop measurement "temperature"
Repeat that last line for each measurement that has junk in it. Gone. Clean slate… until the next round of testing.
