{"id":263,"date":"2006-11-30T13:34:23","date_gmt":"2006-11-30T13:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/2006\/11\/30\/ToughDecision.aspx"},"modified":"2006-11-30T13:34:23","modified_gmt":"2006-11-30T13:34:23","slug":"tough-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/2006\/11\/30\/tough-decision\/","title":{"rendered":"Tough decision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the thing&#8230; travel to Europe from Dublin can be\u00a0crazy-cheap.<\/p>\n<p>Last Monday (November 20<sup>th<\/sup>)\u00a0Paula turned in her final project for her masters degree and a celebration was in order.\u00a0 Knowing the event was coming\u00a0we started preparing well in advance.\u00a0 We figured the frugal thing to do would be to drive somewhere and haven&#8217;t been to western Ireland yet so Paula started looking into places to stay.\u00a0 We assumed it wouldn&#8217;t be too expensive, November is windy, wet and cold in Ireland isn&#8217;t high season for travel.\u00a0 The hotels were, however, pricey.<\/p>\n<p>Out of curiosity we decided to price a\u00a0flight to somewhere warmer.\u00a0 Cha-ching!\u00a0 Airfare\u00a0to Rome: 100 Euros&#8230; round trip&#8230; for both of us&#8230; including luggage.\u00a0 A full tank of gas costs us 55 Euros, the hotel was less and (here&#8217;s the kicker) the weather in Rome is hovering around 70 degrees Fahrenheit versus around 50 degrees in Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Can you say &#8220;no brainer&#8221;?\u00a0 I knew you could.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pictures.little.org\/photos\/113877381-M.jpg\" alt=\"Paula and Reeves in Rome\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the thing&#8230; travel to Europe from Dublin can be\u00a0crazy-cheap.
