In previous years we made jam based primarily on the blackberries we harvested from the walking trail near our house. This year, however, we branched out and made three other varieties using some store-bought fruit too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/WP_20140903_08_11_44_Pro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2190\" src=\"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/WP_20140903_08_11_44_Pro-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"WP_20140903_08_11_44_Pro\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s jam varieties were blackberry\/blueberry, strawberry\/lemon, raspberry lemon-thyme and Hatch pepper jelly (which is delicious on brie, yum).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/WP_20140901_17_07_42_Pro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2191\" src=\"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/WP_20140901_17_07_42_Pro-168x300.jpg\" alt=\"WP_20140901_17_07_42_Pro\" width=\"168\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/WP_20140831_10_05_11_Pro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2192\" src=\"http:\/\/www.little.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/WP_20140831_10_05_11_Pro-168x300.jpg\" alt=\"WP_20140831_10_05_11_Pro\" width=\"168\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All are delicious, but my favorite is the raspberry lemon-thyme, a recipe we found on the extraordinarily beautiful blog <a href=\"http:\/\/julesfood.blogspot.com\/2012\/08\/raspberry-lemon-thyme-jam.html\">Jules Food&#8230;<\/a> (warning, do not go there when hungry as you are likely to damage your keyboard by drooling all over it).<\/p>\n<p>Here are the recipes we used this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blackberry\/blueberry &#8211;\u00a0a combination of\u00a0blueberries and blackberries following the basic berry jam recipe we used last year (which is pretty much the same <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freshpreserving.com\/recipes\/auto-canner\/berry-jam\">as the Ball recipe<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Strawberry lemon &#8211; add finely grated zest of one lemon to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freshpreserving.com\/recipes\/strawberry-jam\">the basic strawberry jam recipe from Ball<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Hatch pepper jelly &#8211; use <a href=\"http:\/\/ebjams.com\/2013\/09\/10\/jalapeno-or-hatch-chile-jelly\/\">the recipe from ebjams<\/a> and removed the seeds from half of the peppers to have it not be too hot, we wish we had left them all in.<\/li>\n<li>Raspberry Lemon Thyme &#8211; we didn&#8217;t have enough raspberries, so we had about 40% strawberries in our jam following <a href=\"http:\/\/julesfood.blogspot.com\/2012\/08\/raspberry-lemon-thyme-jam.html\">the excellent recipe from food photographer and blogger, Jules <\/a>(potentially ghost written by\u00a0Lil&#8217; Ruby).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Next up, we have a big bag of blueberries just waiting to be turned into\u00a0blueberry lemon basil jam.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our annual tradition of making jam on Labor Day continued in style, with a total of\u00a030 jars of jam in\u00a04 different flavors.
